The Greenville Police Department's Communications Section is the first link into the emergency and non-emergency response system for the Greenville Police Department. The Center is comprised of nine civilians, and a supervisor. The dispatcher is usually the first contact the public has with the Department.

The Communications Center processes all calls for service handled by the Department. This includes, incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, walk in calls and officer initiated calls. The Department uses
CADS ( Computer Aided Dispatch System) to enter in callers information and then the information is then prioritized for dispatch to patrol officers. The dispatcher is also responsible for all computer requests through the NCIC (National Crime Information System) network. This network is linked to all 50 states and, the world, through Interpol. The network is used to check license plate information, driver's license information, criminal history information as well as make stolen vehicles and articles entries. Dispatchers can also check to see if a person is wanted through this system. This information, delivered in the least amount of time, is vital to the police officer on the street.

The Greenville Police Department also houses its E911 (Enhanced 911) which is equipped with the latest technology in order to maintain the city’s commitment to quality service. If a person calls 9-1-1 your call is answered by and operator who will process your call and coordinate the proper response team to your emergency all in a mater of seconds.

Police Department - Emergencies
In the event you need the emergency services of the Greenville Police Department, please dial 9-1-1. Please remember that 9-1-1 should only be used for in-progress crimes and/or life threatening situations. When you dial 911 for emergency assistance, the dispatcher will answer and ask you questions about the emergency. They are but not limited to: your name, the address of the emergency, a brief description of the emergency and the telling phone number you are calling from in the event you need to be called back.
