The Delta Economic Development Center was formed through a merger of the Industrial Foundation of Washington County and the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce. This formation better serves the community and potential industry, functioning as one entity.

The Delta Economic Development Center works regionally with Economic Development organizations throughout the Mississippi Delta, such as the Mississippi Development Authority, Delta Council and all institutions of higher education and training centers.

Since its founding in 1828, Greenville has served as the dominant retail hub, trading center and manufacturing nucleus for the small agrarian communities dotting the three-state Lower Mississippi Delta.

Among the top five largest cities in the State of Mississippi, Greenville is home to many different cultural backgrounds. The county’s economy has traditionally been linked to agriculture and, while that is still true, the production of catfish now rivals cotton in economic impact. Today, a variety of manufacturing interests and medical facilities supplement the agricultural industry in the provision of viable employment options. As the state’s largest river port, Greenville is well known in the shipping and towboat industries with the installation of a new 60-ton covered bridge crane. It is the largest crane in the world, spanning four barges.
