The Mission Statement of the Public Works Department is provide the highest quality of service possible to all citizen(s); to enable the City of Greenville to grow and recognize its leadership position in the Delta, foster an atmosphere of
teamwork where the individual worth of each employee is recognized, harmony exists, and we represent the City and Council in a positive manner.


GOALS 2010-2011
1. Implement on-line payment system
2. Begin testing for new meter reading system
3. Increase training for better customer service
4. Educate citizens regarding water/sewer /garbage issues

Is my water safe?
Our Quality Assurance personnel collected approximately 700 individual samples from locations throughout the city during 2010. These samples were submitted to and tested by the Mississippi State Department of Health. In years past, as in years past, your tap water met all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Mississippi State Department of Health drinking water standards. We vigilantly safeguard our water supply and once again, we are proud to report that our system has not violated a maximum contaminant level or any other water quality standard. Included are details about where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies. Informed customers are our best allies, therefore our commitment is to provide you with up to date and accurate information.

During 2010 the City of Greenville Public Works Department completed several projects of special interest. The street Division completed major street work on College, Cefalu, San Ambrosia, Termini, and Sicily Street, Major concrete repairs were undertaken on sections of Main Street and Reed Road. Minor repairs were made to several streets throughout the city. We rebuilt 36 Sewer pumps, and replaced 4 sewer pumps. This department collected 106 appliances, cut down 154 trees, trimmed several trees, repaired 706 water leaks, repaired 977 sewer line breakages, worked 972 utility locate tickets, picked up 3,631 tires, collected 42,360 cubic yards of rubbish from ditches and rows. Repaired 145 fire hydrants, treated 3.4 billion gallons of waste water, and received 2,061 request from citizens.




Project Snapshot 2010
Our Public Works Department assisted with the preparation and clean up for various events throughout the City of Greenville in 2010. Events included, The Annual Mississippi Blues Festival held at the Washington County Convention Center, The Blues Block Party, Little Wynn Festival, Nelson Street, Arts & Crafts Festival, Annual Christmas Parade and Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Parade from Washington to Main Street. Public Works Department also assisted with the set-up and clean up for three Mississippi Valley State football games held on the campus of Greenville-Weston High School.

Overview of Services Rendered by Public Works
Our Public Works Department provides a vast spectrum of services including; maintenance services for city streets, facilities, public grounds water & sewer maintenance, waste water treatment, and sanitation, which oversees residential garbage, rubbish and yard waste collection. Public Works also assist with recycling services within the city. The building and grounds division works alongside the Keep Greenville Beautiful Committee. Together we complete the annual spring and fall city-wide cleanups and planting throughout the year at various intersections for the beautification of this city. Our employees understand that it’s our responsibility to increase confidence in the citizens of our city by improving the quality of life for present and future generations. Each staff member of the Public Works Department takes pride in the level and diversity of services provided to our city, observes the trust placed in them by residents, businesses and visitors, and cares that each job assignment is performed skillfully, safely and completely. Moreover, the department arranges birthday parties at the Firehouse Museums and arrange tours at the Wetherbee House upon request. The Department’s table of Organization is comprised of the following seven divisions: Administration, Building & Grounds, Sanitation, Street, Sewer Maintenance, Water Maintenance and Wastewater Treatment Plant. These divisions are located in four different locations throughout the city. Within each of these divisions are several programs tasked with specific areas of responsibilities within their specialties.
